How to Move to China 🇨🇳

Preparing for China

Congratulations. You have a job working abroad!

Now you need to sort out your visa, flights, accommodation, insurance, and what you're going to take with you.

Visa

Visit the relevant embassy for the country you are moving to. A lot of these are now online, though others require you to attend the physical embassy. The process can be long winded and a lot of waiting around but its very simple.

Insurance

There are many different insurance providers and I would recommend getting some because you never know if you will hurt yourself or your flight gets cancelled at the last second. I used American Express insurance, but they all do the same thing - some have built in or cheaper insurance when you use their credit cards or spend a certain amount, so check with your own brands.

Accommodation

I got put up in a hotel for a couple of days while browsing apartments near my workplace. I recommend having a browse on the local equivalents of Rightmove, and Zoopla - I had a look on 58.com before I arrived so that I had a rough idea of prices and what to expect.

Flights

A one-way flight to China cost me around £620 using China Air. Skyscanner is your friend for finding those cheaper flights.
